Charlottesville South Rivanna River Reservoir Recreational Access is Severely Diminished and Threatened, oh, and fitness paddling

The closing of the South Rivanna Reservoir Woodburn Road Boat Ramp

I have never though of myself as an activist, but this one has me a little wound up.

@AlbemarleCountyVA leaders want to pretend they are forward-thinking, but I assure you they are clueless.

They defined a growth area north of town and now realize the water resources to serve the entire region is woefully inadequate.

There is a separate water station on the North Rivanna River that the Rivanna Water and Sewage Authority will soon decommission. So their answer? Build a new pipeline under the S. Rivanna river to pump water from the south to the north, even though the northern supply is a separate water supply in case of emergency drought situations.

The plan is asinine and public access to this natural gem is under attack.

@AlbemarleCountyVA Albemarle County, You were given land below the S. Rivanna Reservoir dam for a park with boat ramp river access and yet you leave it unfunded and undeveloped. With the disappearance of this #RWSA @rivannawaterandsewerauthor8635 boat ramp you leave the public with very limited and poor access to this gem of a natural resource for canoe and kayak paddlers (and sport fishermen.) Give paddlers access because they will fall in love with it and they will protect what they love.

Virginia Rowing Association has premier, private access to this body of water for transient, collegiate athletes, yet the taxpayers who live here have limited access.

Do better, Albemarle County VA.
