I hit the water Saturday to lay down some more kayaking base miles, prepping for my first two kayak races of the year. It was chilly and windy but I still managed to get in my standard 10-mile training run.
Saturday evening, I assessed my forearm and elbow tendon situation and realized that setting a goal to ride my bikes 200 miles in April might have been a bit misdirected. The same tendons that get triggered paddling are the same tendons that get triggered grabbing handlebars and brake levers, so instead of hopping on my road bike today (as I originally planned,) I decided to disappear up into the mountains to check out White Rock Falls and Lake Sherando.
I am so lucky to have the Blue Ridge Mountains in my backyard.
I had to fight the urge to just keep hiking to Maine.
20 miles on water and over land is a great weekend by any measure. I did the hike in a fasted state so hopefully I’m also burning some fat to get lighter in the kayak.
We’ll see what the smart scale tells me in the morning.

Please consider buying me a virtual coffee to say “thanks” if you appreciate anything I do:
