I got to check one off the bucket list today.
The Rapidan River.
#PaddlingBuddyPete and I set out to paddle this new water together. Pete had done the lower section (and just about ever other section of the Rapidan before,) but was missing the Racoon Ford section.
The day was mostly overcast, which made it perfect paddling weather. It got sunny at the end, but not too hot, which made it very easy to enjoy this Spring paddle.
I did a few upstream sections on some feeder streams, believed to be Potato Run, Brook Run and Mountain Run/Mine Run, which added a few extra miles for me. At one point I even traveled through a time/space portal which you will see in the video. I would tell you where it is, but somebody flashed something bright in my eyes shortly afterward and all recollection of the location of the portal is gone.
The scenery was wonderful and we saw multiple Bald Eagles, a fawn swimming across the river, many other birds, and a couple of otters frolicking together in the water.
I did some mountain biking on Saturday (I am woefully out-of-shape for mountain biking,) did a 10-mile flatwater training run in my Stellar SEL yesterday, and today got in 15 more paddling miles with my Prijon Seayak.
It was a great weekend to be outdoors and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Yes, I test out some gear to support this channel, but when I give it a thumbs up it becomes part of my essential gear. That applies to SurviveWear waterproof first aid kits and UltraFat nut butter that I had with me on this trip.
If you are able-bodied, get out there and be active in nature. It will brighten your outlook and lift your spirit.
