A few words for owners of West Side Boat Shop kayaks who need parts or are interested in repairing their boats:
I’ve got a few original (used) seats for Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt-X kayaks and plenty of thigh braces and back straps (the Velcro/seatbelt variety.) $60 for a set of 3 of the thigh braces/back bands. Seats, call me and let’s talk.
We are also getting into the late season kayaking season where a solid emergency survival kit is in order for cold weather kayak rescue and survival situations.
Come join me at the James River Regatta in Scottsville, VA on Sept. 20 and, of course, if you are ever passing through Charlottesville, VA and want to paddle a kayak with me, let me know in advance and we’ll set something up.
I’ve been paddling all summer, but not as much and not as aggressively as usual in order to let my body heal. I realize I am not a young man anymore and need to rethink my training, especially my workouts in the gym, which have probably been doing the most harm to the tendons in my arms and elbows.
I hate to admit I need to scale back, but my body is telling me I need to scale back. I hope to paddle until the day I drop dead, and in order to do that I need to reduce the strain I’m putting on my body today so I can add days of lower-impact exercise for (hopefully) many years to come.
“Love this sport, take what it has to give you, and pay it forward.” TM
