Paddling new-to-me water: The New River in Virginia

I had the opportunity to join up with the Y-Not Floaters Saturday morning to join them on the New River. When I was a much younger man I rafted a whitewater portion of the New River in WV, but I had never paddled the New River in Virginia.

So I got to check it off my bucket list–but I’ll be back.

The scenery was amazing, the water was great (even though everything is running low in VA right now,) and the company was very welcoming and they were just awesome people. I had only paddled with them once before in the Spring of 2024 when we paddled a section of the Shenandoah, and I suspect they forgot about me and made the mistake of inviting back to paddle with them again. 😉

I believe I like this river better than the Shenandoah.

The New River offers awesome scenery with steep, limestone cliffs throughout
