Richmond Paddle Cup 2022

Collecting some new hardware

I returned to the Richmond Paddle Cup race this past Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, sponsored by the Crosswind Paddle Company. Alex and Colin are great guys and while their business is for stand up paddle boarders and they created this race as a paddleboard race, they also include 5-mile and 22-mile race options for kayakers and canoeists. They do this to promote watersports in general and to take up some of the void after the James River Foundation ceased hosting the James River Rundown ultra-marathon canoe/kayak race.

This year we once again started the 22-mile race at Powhatan State Park but the finish line was moved just a bit upstream to a much better boat ramp at Robious Landing Park in Midlothian, VA.

My West Side Boat Shop Wave Excel kayak lived up to my expectations and she and I enjoyed being in the front of the pack for almost the entire race. Good enough to take home the 1st place trophy.

Paddling Friend Shelli paddled the West Side Boat Shop Delta kayak in the 5-mile race and also took home a first place trophy.

Although it turned out to be a very hot day, it was a very good day full of fun, laughs, competition and comradery.

Thanks for watching and enjoy!
