Offseason kayak training: A quick update with some long-form paddling video

I’m slowing things down on water but am getting a little more aggressive in the gym.

I hit the water to paddle a portion of the South Rivanna Reservoir and then up Ivy Creek through the Ivy Creek Natural area to get out of the wind.

When I got back to the boat ramp I bumped into ole paddling buddy Konrad, launching a strange contraption.

Konrad’s canoe with rowing adaptor admittedly is pretty awesome

The “end of the line,” as far as I could paddle up Ivy Creek

I would be remiss if I did not publicly acknowledge and thank Konrad for introducing me to the sport of competitive paddling. He got me into my first kayak race on the Tye River in Nelson County, VA…well, let’s just say…”a couple” of years ago.

Nelson Downriver Race 2009. This was actually my second year at this race.

And be sure to check out my page that shows exercises for kayakers. The offseason is just as important as paddling season to a true paddler.
