I think this was one of the most challenging 10-mile kayak races I’ve ever done.
A Nor’easter came up along the coast of Virginia yesterday, so what was supposed to be a downriver race of tidal water going with the tide turn out to be something very different.
The storm surge had water rising upriver (going against us) and the wind in our faces was relentless. That all created some funky waves from weird angles and challenging conditions.
I was pleased to cross the finish line in 1st place in the kayak division, 2nd overall to two awesome paddlers in a C2.
